Horticultural Expo 2023 Doha was the first International Horticultural Exhibition to be held in Qatar, the Middle East and North Africa region. It adopted the theme of Green Desert, Better Environment, to inspire and raise awareness about innovative solutions with the aim of mitigating and reducing desertification.

Due to the diversity of its participants and audiences, ranging from top decision-makers to children, Expo 2023 Doha offered a multifaceted event where extraordinary exhibitions, diplomatic encounters, business meetings, public debates and live shows took place.

Admission to the Exhibition Site was free of charge for all visitors, offering them an exciting opportunity to enjoy the Expo's sprawling gardens, international area, activities and entertainment.

The event – the first Horticultural Expo to be held within an arid climate - promoted sustainable behaviours, increased environmental awareness, and advanced green technologies for urban settings and arid regions.

 Green Desert, Better Environment

The theme for Horticultural Expo 2023 Doha, Qatar, was "Green Desert, Better Environment", which aimed to inspire and inform guests and the international community about innovative solutions to mitigate desertification.

"Green Desert, Better Environment" was based around four subthemes:

  • Modern Agriculture - Providing innovation, research and scientific advancements to produce safe, sustainable and affordable food for the increasing population of the world;
  • Technology & Innovation - Incorporating new techniques to enhance farming productivity and balance environmental sustainability. Technological advancement has a critical role in establishing resilient and energy efficient farming methods, which greatly diminish the use of chemical-intensive agriculture;
  • Environmental Awareness - Raising global awareness to promote a long-term change in attitudes and behaviour towards the environment. It is a tool for encouraging the protection of natural resources, raising a sense of connection to the natural world and promoting sustainable development;
  • Sustainability - Achieving humanity's common objective of balancing different needs on both a local and global level to transform lifestyles, business practices and governmental policies that respects future generations by recognising global environmental challenges.

Site

The site of Horticultural Expo 2023 Doha, Qatar was located in Al Bidda Park, in the heart of Doha. The site was divided into three distinctive zones, of which the Northern portion hosted the international event. The remaining two zones were used for a variety of cultural and entertainment activities, panel discussions and other complementary functions.

International Zone (70 ha): The Expo gateway and focal point of international gardens, exhibitions and events.

The area included the Expo House, a multifunctional building, built purposely for the Expo. Within the Expo House there was an open events' space, a prayer room, and a café on the ground floor. On the first floor there was a media centre and offices, while the rooftop contained a terrace, an indoor restaurant and a garden.

The International Area featured an Innovation Centre located in the second largest existing building on site. The Innovation Centre included an exhibition space for a variety of interactive events. The space was designed to embrace the Expo theme and had a dedicated area for children to learn more about the Expo's sub-themes.

Family Zone (50 ha): A hub for family fun, activities, gathering and outdoor pursuits.

Cultural Zone (50 ha): The perfect venue for cultural and traditional activities and exhibitions thanks to its proximity to the historical core of Doha and its on-site features including the Old Fort and Old Rocks.
